Internal User Guide

This document provides guidelines for managing various sections in mindVoke website.

Backend

mindVoke website is based on WordPress blogging platform. It’s good to understand how WordPress works, for example by learning at https://learn.wordpress.com/. In particular, please remember the concept of:

  • Page: a regular web page, has no chronological meanings. Managed in “Pages” section of wp-admin.
    • Template: a page can be tied to a template that governs how it will look to end user. Can be selected in “Page Attributes” configuration in a page editor.
    • Parent: a page can be a child of another page, to give hierarchical meanings. Can be selected in “Page Attributes” configuration in a page editor.
  • Menu: hierarchical menu that can be shown in top navigation bar or sidebar. Managed in “Appearance” > “Menus” section of wp-admin.

About

About page is managed as a regular wordpress page (access from Pages menu).

Learn

User Manual

User manuals are wordpress page that are:

  • using “Manual Page” template
  • added to “Manual” menu
  • (optional) has parent page of “User Manual”

Therefore, if you need to create a user manual page, please:

  1. Create a page with template of “User Manual” and parent of “User Manual”
  2. Add link to this page to the “Manual” menu structure

When you are deleting a manual page, don’t forget to delete it from “Manual” menu as well.

Pages position in menu is linked to the “Next” and “Prev” button links.

Tutorial

Tutorials can be edited from the “Tutorial” menu on the left. Adding one or more tutorial category to that tutorial entry enables it to be filtered when presented to user.

Just below the content editor, there is “Tutorial Options” form, where you can fill in:

  • “You will learn about” items. It’s in form of regular text box. Enter one learning point per line. Don’t press return on last line (otherwise you will have extra empty learning point)
  • “Duration” where you can fill anything like “10 minutes”, “1 hour 15 minutes”. It will be displayed as is.

Note that you don’t need to fill in “Last Updated”, it will be automatically calculated for you.

Worlds Created

Worlds can be created from the “Worlds Created” menu on the left. Click on “Add panorama” to insert the 360 view, put some description below, and fill in “Author name” on the attributes list below.

Add “Featured” category to the post so that it is shown when user filters on “Featured Worlds” tab.

Marketplace is linked to external URL and not managed in WordPress.
